Life's Medicine-Student

CRT/DLP/LCD Power Point

Check This Out!

Oct 31, 2013

Today we continued our studies in IC3 and learned and talked about Digital Citizenship. And we were given multiple verbal group assignments to complete. We talked about copyright issues as well as online living and being respectful while you are on the internet.

We were given a task on internet etiquette and I found a list on different rules to follow; and this is what I found: Etiquette List of Rules. I highly recommend checking this list out.

We were also given a task on coming up with a power point presentation on communicating online. It goes over the privacy and security tips that most people should follow. Here is what myself and my partner came up with; Communicating Online.

Today we continued our IC3 studies learning about wireless networking and different types of networking sites. For example we talked about Skype and Google Hangout and talked about what types of digital communication sites and if they are Real time based or Delayed time based. We also had some assignments to do me and a partner had to open up Microsoft Outlook and connect our gmail account to it. We then had to send each other emails of a list of different types of ways on communicating digitally.

Another one of our assignments was we had to write up two different types of chat programs and this is what I came up with:

Skype is almost perfect for this because of it working on your computer desktop, laptop, and portable device. Skype allows you to share your screen with multiple amount of people within one Skype call. It also allows you to start a group chat with an unlimited amount of people. Skype is easy to use on your portable devices because most of them these days have apps so you can use it in a different format on your phone instead of using a computer.

Google Hangout would be the most perfect program for this because it can do everything that Skype can do and as well more. Video group chat with more than 2 people does not cost money it is completely free! You can also start a collaborative docx with it which allows you to work on the same document with the people within your call.

At the end of the day we had to get into 2 groups and set up a plan on how to connect 8 computers together with a wireless network and connect them all together and then being able to run Risk II on it through a multiplayer game.

Today we continued our IC3 studies on LAN servers and IP addresses. We did notes on information about LAN and different versions of IP addresses and what the use of it is for. We had to do a task on exploring networking models and this is what I came across:

1. Client Server Networking: Click Here

2. Peer To Peer Networking: Click Here

We also had another task at the end of class on the steps on how to purchase a Static IP Address:

How to purchase a Static IP Address:

Step 1Select the device you're going to use with your static IP. Your options typically include your router, computer or modem.
Step 2Find the MAC address of the device you selected. Your router's MAC address can usually be found on a sticker on the device, and if it's not on your modem's label, your Internet Service Provider should have the MAC address for your modem.
Step 3Click "Start," type "cmd" into the search box and press "Enter" to bring up the DOS command prompt in order to find your computer's MAC address. Type "ipconfig/all" into the command prompt and press "Enter." Look for the text that says "Physical Address," then copy the numbers and letters that appear directly to the right of that text, as this is your computer's MAC address.
Step 4Contact your Internet Service Provider's customer service department and ask to purchase a static IP address through them. Give them the MAC address of the device you want to assign the static IP to. It may take a few days for them to assign you with a static IP.
Step 5Reset your computer, modem or router after the static IP address has been assigned.

Today we continued our IC3 studies with learning about Networks. We did notes on different versions of networks. Such as local networks, ethernet, network protocols and network technology. We also did notes on cables and we did little tasks on dealing with cables.

I found this very useful to learn about since I do sometimes have network issues at my house so I need to reset some settings so this may help me next time something occurs. We also had an assignment that we had to find out what our NIC was and how fast it was and this is what I came up with:

 My NIC is RTL8168
Speed: The Realtek RTL8168 Gigabit Ethernet controller combines a triple-speed IEEE 802.3 compliant Media Access Controller (MAC) with a triple-speed Ethernet

Yesterday in class for most of the day we basically learned all about printers. We did a bit the day before and I was able to continue with the label assignment with getting out name and info printed out onto the label. We were asked to create a short video on how to set up user and admin permissions on Windows XP Home and Professional. We were able to prove that it was not possible to do only read and only write but for some reason you were able to do both. One of my partners is editing the video and I will soon be able to post it on this here blog post.

At the end of class myself and my group members for our IDS project were able to talk to some of the teachers about the script for our introduction video for the school, that we will be posting on the homepage of the Riverside community College website once is said and done.

Today in class me and my group worked on planning out our IDS project and setting up what we are going to propose to the IT Department. It looks like we will be using  the software called Adobe Contributor CS3.

We did notes today on Printers and how they work and the different types of printers. I found it very interesting. We also had several tasks to do. One of the tasks was to get a printer working with our compaq computers. Myself and another student worked on getting it working with his compaq computer. We were successful and were able to move onto the next task quite quickly.

The next task was to right down the steps on how to use a laser printer and this is what I came up with:

1. Cleaning: Excess toner is scraped from the photoelectric drum.
2. Conditioning: A uniform -600 volt charge is placed on the photoelectric drum by the primary corona.
3. Writing: Laser diodes write an invisible electric image on the photoelectric drum by causing the drum surface
to be less negative wherever the laser beam hits.
4. Developing: This is where the transfer roller places the toner on the drum. The toner sticks to the areas that
have had the electric charge lessened due to the laser beam.
5. Transfer: The secondary corona uses a positive charge to attract the toner from the drum to the paper. The
paper gets charged by corona too.
6. Fusing: The toner is then melted into the paper.

After class I was able to set up a possible  practicum and talk to the manager/runner for a long period of time and get lots of info written down and plan out what I may be doing. I feel pretty confident that this may work out.

Today we took notes on Windows XP and Vista/7. Mainly about the interface and how to update and maintain the different operating systems on your computer. We learned how to set a backup on our compaq computers. So I had to install the backup/restore software for it and to get the backup set up I found fairly easy.

We also had to add a new HDD/RAM table onto our database which will hold the information of every ones compaqs. At the end of class we had to install different PCI's and PCIe's to our compaqs and see how they run. I first had to do some research on how I had to install it. I got a graphics card that I had to test. I did much research on this particular part and learned a lot about it.

Today in class we focused on some more IC3. This time involved for the whole day we worked on Microsoft Access. We were given some tasks to do that I was able to complete fairly well. But once when we got into our main assignment for the day it was hard figuring out on what I had to do. For the most part I was able to get most of the stuff completed. I was confused in buts and pieces of what we had to do for the forms part of the database.

We had a few questions to answer about spreadsheets and databases so here is what I got:

Spreadsheets:

Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that can be used for storing, organizing and manipulating data

Databases:

A database is a tool for collecting and organizing information. Databases can store information about people, products, orders, or anything else. Many databases start as a list in a word-processing program or spreadsheet.

2 Ways On How To Retrieve The Data:

You can use the finder tool to be able to type in a word from the data so then you will be able to find it. You can go to external data tab and go to saved imports and see if your data may be in there.

Today in class we once again focused on our IC3 studies. But this time we learned the basics and the different features of Microsoft Power Point. I really do like power point because I find enjoyment out of making different presentations. With taking this course I have learned more things that I did not know about MS Power Point than I did before. We finished the day with using command prompt on our compact computers. We had to create a file and copy it and then put it into our designated folder.

One of our tasks was to put one of our assignments on our blog Exploring Seattle.

We also had to post the following instructions on how to get a projector working with a laptop:

Step 1:
VGA port into Laptop and Projector.
Step 2:
Power on the Projector.
Step 3:
Follow the instructions in the manual.
Step 4:
Remove lens cover.
Step 5:
Adjust the projector angle.
Step 6:
Begin presentation.

Today we started with IC3 Studies, which involved the functions and uses of Microsoft Word. There were a few things I did not know about until we talked about it today.

We did some different assignments today that involved going deeper into Microsoft Word to do. Found for the most part the task was pretty easy but there were some things that I did not know about Microsoft Word.

We concluded the day with partitioning and Multi-booting our drives. I was able to do a side task that I had to do yesterday but didn't have time to figure it out. So today I erased one of the hard drives I was given. We also had to figure out how to use the different features of command prompt and what they are used for.

I found this guide fairly helpful for the basics:

Today in class we continued our IC3 studies and our CompTIA+ studies. In IC3 we talked and learned about the different windows features and tools. I found the first 2 fairly easy and was able to soon figure out the other couple tasks that we had to do using Microsoft Office. About troubleshooting and fixing hard drives.

In CompTIA+ we learned how to wipe a computers hard drive clean using Ultimate boot. We also did some notes on Windows Troubleshooting.

Today in class we once again focused on IC3 material. We were able to do a practice exam to get us ready for the real in exam coming up in November. I do need to study more but for the OS of the exam I did fairly well. I did not do well on the trouble shooting section of the exam tho since we haven't spent much time learning about it.

For the rest of the day we spent our time working on our Resumes and Cover Letters. I was able to finish mine very quickly because I already had most of my layout finished. Next we once again practiced on our phone interview skills. For the most part I think I know what I need to put together a could interview speech once I call in for my practicum.

Today in class we continued with IC3 knowledge. We had to do an assignment to make a flowchart on a trouble shooting non working mouse and fill in the steps on how to potentially get it working. We didn't spend much time on this task but we were able to get it done with no hassle.

For the rest of the day we once again worked on our compaq computers. I was able to get Lubuntu working on the second hard drive as well as already having Windows XP working on the first. I ran into a few issues with the hard drive but was able to partition it correctly and install the OS.

Today we we continued to work on getting Windows XP working on our compaq computers. I was successful and was able to move onto the next task on downloading drivers to my compaq computer. After we spent quite a bit of time working on them we continued on with our studies in IC3 which talked about different software. We then moved on to A+ material which consisted of Registry notes.

At the end of the day we had to bring up the command program on our compaq computers and we had to figure out how to get taskkill to work and tasklist which I found was kinda hard because of it not working on my computer and a few other peoples computers.

Today in class we continued on with our IC3 studies and looked onto to control panel. We did a few things with it like changing the desktop background and or editing it, changing the screen saver to a downloadable one we got off of the internet.

But for most of the day we spent working on booting up our USB drives. I was able to get the Windows XP toUSB working and I started with the partitions assignment but was unable to continue because of a small error I came across.

If anyone is still stuck on the booting Windows XP to USB here is a guide that will help you:
